REPORT FROM THE LCAC SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

September 15, 2009

Based on information gathered from the University of Liberia website, original estimates for the scholarship fees amounted to a total of $100.50 per student for the 2009-2010 Academic year or $2010.00 for the 20 students for the academic year.  The LCAC scholarship chairman was fortunate to meet with the President of the University of Liberia Dr. Emmet A. Dennis in the USA on August 22, 2009.  This meeting took place in Boston, MA.  The LCAC scholarship chairman discussed issues relating to the scholarship program of LCAC with the President of the University of Liberia.  At this meeting, the U of L President informed the scholarship chairman that tuition and fees had increased for the 2009-2010 academic year to about $140 per student for the academic year or $2800.00 for the 20 students for the academic year.

On behalf of LCAC, the scholarship chairman submitted a manager’s check in the amount of $1400.00 to the President of the University of Liberia to cover the tuition and fees of the first semester for the 2009-2010 Academic Year for the 20 LCAC scholarship recipients. Included with the payment was a list containing the names, ID numbers and phone numbers of the 20 scholarship students.

At the end of his short visit to the United States, the President of the University of Liberia took this money to Liberia and had it disbursed to cover the tuition and fees for the 20 LCAC scholarship students at the University of Liberia.  Registration for the academic year began at the beginning of September, 2009.

The chairman of the LCAC scholarship committee appointed Mr. William Karpeh who resides in Liberia, to serve as the LCAC Scholarship coordinator in Liberia.  Mr. Karpeh is to serve as the contact person for all of the scholarship students.  He is also the Liberian representative of LCAC who will transact all financial matters with the University of Liberia on behalf of the LCAC.

Things are tough in Liberia. As, you can see I have been in and out dropping for several reasons. However, I am committed to a completion.

       Varney    Siafa

I deserve this Scholarship to enable me smoothly start up my studies at this university while I am working out some modelities to have me sponsor myself all through my studies. Secondly, This schorlatship will help me as a self sponsored person who is frighting hard to reach his dreams.

Wooiklee   Paye

I deserve this scholarship because it will help me to cntinue my quest for  higher education .I am a self suported student ,and I need a great assistance if I should continue this my academic sojourn. If I am selected as a succesful;candidate,I will be ver greatful

       David   Karpilee

I deserve this scholarship because, I need help to enable me complete my college education.  I am self supported and when furtunate to get this opportunity I will make better use of it.  I believe that by the grace of God I will get it and will use it for the betterment of our country.

George    Belaway

I would like to use this opportunity to address financial incapacity.  Life in Liberia with out a Job or business is so difficult in that only by the Grace of God one can sustain himself/herself. As a young man, coming out of high school in 1997, and enrolling at the University was almost impossible, until 2005, when I was assisted by friends to enrol at the University of Liberia. Financial constraints remain a storming block in my academic journey and I am constantly soliciting financial assistant to see my dream of being a professional, come to reality.

Cyrus   B   Cephas

First, and foremost I must command Dr. Denis for introducint a program for desiring students of the U.L. who will take the advantage of such a program in fostering / in persuit of higher achievement. This scholarship serve as milestone in my life. I am a studnet who is striving for higher education beyond Bsc, I am self sustainable , I have no means of suport to go beyoned, I am financially depressed to go behond bounds of Bsc, so I take this advantage to have me part of such a program

Archie    Karzear

I deserve this Scholarship Because of my Parents inability to sponsor me at the University. Financially they were even unable to get me at the University, it was all by the grace of God. I am strongly anticipating a good response in achieving my educational sojourn so that I can be a help to my families and country at large.

Jacob  Nankay

I student Jacob Gardia Nankay I read from a notic on campus about this scholarship. I am applying as self suported student that deserve this scholarship. If opportunity given me, I will prove my self the best. May God bless you all.

Solomon   Saah

I deserve this scholarship because i need more time to study and make research. As a student studying science, I need a lot of time to read and make research so as to be inline with the technological world of today. I need a little time to rest and refresh the mind for the lesson. But unfortunately, I don't carry these activities fully because I have to do alomst everything myself; pay my own tuition, find my own and so on. So I deserve this scholarship to help me focus on my studies more.

Juety    Davis

I Juety Davis senior student of the university of Liberia desrve such a financial assistance because currently I am faced with serious financial problems which nearly cause me to drop this just ended semester. Morebesides, I am also in good academic standing at the University and need some assiatance to enable me complete my university education.

      Alexander  Kesselly

I deserve tis scholarship because of the prevailing situation I am Facing in my personal life. Moreover,I have no parent to support me to college, it is my own affort that I am trying to support both my childern and myself. However, I have do daily hire contract in order to support my family and sometime when the going get so hard, I even drop from school because finanical crisis. so in this manner I think I really need this assistance.

Tenneh  Toure

I deserve this scholarship because of financial constraint. I am self-reliant.  Moreover, the time taken to fend for daily substainance those not allow much time for dedication to my studies.

Winston  J. Kesseh

Due to the economic difficulties facing me I desire this scholarship to help me further my education, should I be successful.

Vincent  Eruophe

My reason of applying for this scholarship is due to my financial incapability to continue my education at the University. Sir, I will highly appreciate if you were to grant me this opportunity to continue my education at the University. thank you.

Ida   Capehart

Honestly, I deserve this scholarship due to lack of funding right now to enroll this coming academic year 2009.  besides, I am a self-supported student with lot of extended family members to cater for.  I would highly appreciate were you to grant me this unique scholarship oportunity to enable me academically empower muyself as a female and contribute meaningfully to society.  Thanks mver much for this opportuinty wish I believe will enable me to enroll at the University orf Liberia this semster.

Jack    G.   Flomo

Reason is that I have been self supporting in my university schooling. Presently, I am a person who is not employed;but, it takes the effort of some related friends who have being offering me some financial aids.  A friend who planned to sponsor me for this semester, just held a tragic accident and lost his two legs which has caused me a big setback. I am so disturbbed, embarrassed and confused; and do not even know whom to turn to for any aid.As per mentioned above, I would highly appreciate you if I am accepted.

Francis  T.  Fallah

I need this scholarship because it will help me focus on my course and enable me do more research and reading in my area of concentratration. This scholarship will also be helpful to me because of my present in ability to meet up with all of my academic needs. When given the opportunity, i will make a maximun use of it and ensure that my sponsors don't regreat giving me this scholarship.

Victor   P.   Whea

I deserve this scholarship because I want to continue my education at a higher lever. Also, I want to be able to contribute to this nation - Liberia to put it back on good footing

Chrispin  Williams

I desrves such scholarship because I am a son of a single mother who was recently retired after she served the JFK memorial Hospital for more than 30 years... I am currently out of job and find it difficult to get my fees paid.

Josephine  Tarlue

I express profound compliment with high sentiments for the level of impact your organization continue to make in the lives of Liberrian youths.  With the afore-mentioned, I would like to apply for this scholarship.  I realise that I deserve such a scholarship.  As people from different professional backgrounds continue to pursue knowledge for efficiency and effectiveness in their area of interest, the need to further our education in Liberia is an ardent need.  i would like to be a productive citizen in muy nation.  thius nation that has experience more than 14 years of civil crisis which affected every sector including our educational sector.  Today the educational sector is as much in transition as the country itself.  It is no secret that violence sparked series of political and social unrest plunged the country into anarchy.  The crisis disrupted the economic and educational activities.  the was inflicted huge human and material casualties and retarded the modest progress recorded in previous decade.  Financial constrain is a major problem stopping me from effectively carry out my full credits.  The situation is slowly but progressively revising and the need for hgher education can not be sacrifice.
